The Eagle Cap Wilderness is the largest wilderness in Oregon. It contains more than 360,000 acres. There are 17 peaks over 9,000 ft., including Oregon's sixth highest summit, Sacajawea Peak (9,838 ft.). Click on image for full size picture
The Wilderness contains 52 lakes, a small ice field and miles of trails. There is pristine fishing in most of the lakes and streams. Alpine meadows hold a multitude of wild flowers, higher slopes hold subalpine fir and whitebark pine and lower slopes supporting dense stands of pine, fir, spruce and tamarack. Wildlife species include elk, deer, goat, sheep, bear and cougar. There are also many species of birds. Click on image for full size picture
The summers are relatively dry, however there are often afternoon thunderstorms. Summer temperatures are generally mild, but may reach the 80's during the day and fall to the 40's and sometimes below.
